Dr. Frank and his Shiny Robot Monkeys

So, believe it or not, I'm playing at the Waterfront in Rotterdam, Holland on Saturday, August 28th.

Check it out: the Rotterdam Rumble, under the auspices of Stardumb Records. The Groovie Ghoulies are playing on the Friday, plus lots of other rock and roll bands like the Yum Yums, the Zatopeks, Apers, Tabascos, etc.:

My part in the affair is billed as Dr. Frank and his Shiny Robot Monkeys, because I'll be playing with a back-up band of well-maintained mechanical monkeys. Trained exhibition monkeys, essentially.

I'm also doing some solo acoustic shows (that is, without those crazy monkeys.) Here's what I know about them:

Tuesday Aug. 24: Venlo, The Netherlands

Wednesday Aug. 25: Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Radio interview plus 3 songs)

Thursday Aug. 26: Solingen, Germany

Saturday Aug. 28: The Waterfront, Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Sunday Aug. 29: Rotterdam, The Netherlands (afternoon show & popquiz medley)

There may be a couple more, too, though I'm not sure. I'll post more info. when I get it.

See you in Europa.

Shiny robot Monkees? I bet the little Davey one is so cute!!! Nah, seriously Frank, please enlighten us further on the new Shiny Robot Monkeys as opposed to the Ted, Jym and Bobby lineup.

Sorry, hit the submit too quick, but could the Shiny Robot Monkeys be the precursor/dry run for the new Dr. Frank solo album???

that's a very cool, attractive poster, with some really terrible band names. save of course the shiny robot monkeys, which is f*&%in cool.

Don't know if you've ever heard of them, but a band from that area that I like a lot "the Travoltas", may be worth giving a listen to. Scandanavian Oi'!

not that i'll be so far,but will the monkeys
sing the monkey song? cause in my opinion it'll
be kind of required.

"because I'll be playing with a back-up band of well-maintained mechanical monkeys"

That's the greatest and best thing I've read in a fairly long while.

I hope there'll be pictures.

If they're real mechanical monkeys I'll fly to Holland...we're severly lacking those here on the East Coast.

Presumably you're aware of and ok'd them putting up eight mp3s of yours, yes? Glancing over the selection, it looks to be a pretty good introduction with a few new and a few older songs.

Wish I could be there, but, barring that, wish I could have a copy of that beautiful poster. I'm hunting around for an email address to ask.

could you try to come to Berlin or else I'll check out the Solingen or Rotterdam Show

Yes, that is an attractive poster. Any idea who the artist is?

Posted by: J. Clood at July 31, 2004 07:38 AM

I bet the poster is made by Stefan Tijs, the Stardumb Records guy. He has more art on his homepage: http://www.stefantijs.com/.

I'm with Zaphod. The Travoltas are great. They are like the beach boys on speed. "Endless Summer", their latest record, is fabulous.

Hey Frank, do you thınk you'll make it to Scandınavıa?

Any show with the Groovie Ghoulies, Dr. Frank, AND Shiny Robot Monkeys is a show I'll be severely pained to miss!
Best of luck in Europe.

I hope the monkeys go down a storm. From what I've heard the Dutchies are a wild bunch. If no light is shone on the exact activities of these shiny robot monkeys, I will gather information from a Zatopek upon their return.

I can only say: It was awesome!!!
Dr. Frank opened accoustically. Then was joined by them Monkeys. Which was in fact pretty bizarre. I thought dolphins were intelligent.....

They played a set of what can de called "The best of the MTX songbook". To name a few titles: I just wanna do it with you, Valveeta, She turned out to be crazy, Mr. Ramones & Swiss Army Girlfriend.

It rocked!!!!!!
