Dan Quayle was right about

Dan Quayle was right about Murphy Brown, though that didn't make ridiculing him any less fun. But I'm not sure he's right about the effectiveness of the Ozzy Osbourne show as an anti-drug program:

``In a weird way, Ozzy is a great anti-drug promotion. Look at him and how fried his brains are from taking drugs all those years and everyone will say, 'I don't want to be like that.'''

If drug-damaged rock stars making spectacles of themselves were any kind of deterrent, drug abuse would have disappeared long ago. Most people wouldn't mind all that much being "like that." Anyway, for those who haven't experienced it firsthand, the usual process is: (a) observe drug-damaged rock star; (b) emulate drug-damaged rock star; (c) hit rock bottom; (d) join NA as a result of girlfriend's ultimatum; (e) repeat steps (b) through (d) several times until you (e-1) die, or (e-2) finally make it through most of the twelve steps, in which case you move on to: (f) survive; followed by (g) become insufferable. Rock and roll.
