Geek Alert

Just a note to any Mac users among you: if you've been looking for a good newsreader for OSX, you need look no further than Unison. I tended to use the MT version of Newswatcher in OS9, but the OSX version was pretty unusable. Until now, the best option I could come up with (other than plain old rn/tn) was Entourage, even though it's clunky, slow, buggy, and utterly counter-intuitive. Anyway, Unison has tons of terrific features, many of which I haven't had a chance to try yet; but most important of all, it works great, is totally searchable, and is easy to figure out. I tried it out once and was instantly hooked. Highly recommended.

I love macs. If they stop working right, you know that one of about 6 or 7 things is gonna fix the problem. They're so easy.

I'm in technical support and let me say that you are correct Amy, but the PC community is closing the Gap with Windows XP PRO. The XP Home is still crap, but PRO is the extermely reliable and stable too. I can't wait until LongHorn(codename) comes out because it is more like OSX, it is built on top of Linux where-as OSX is built on top of Unix. Things are about to get interesting.

I actually like XP home. I haven't used XP pro too much, but I use home a lot. It's not so bad, but I wouldn't recommend any type of windows to non-tech people. I do tech support too, and old people on windows is a nightmare.

By old you mean what, 37- 38? Ha... sorry 90's rockers. I'm just kiddin'.
Seriously though, why fault our senior citizens who grew up with simple straightfoward machines (typewriters, cash registers, etc.) just because Bill Gates has a confusing crash-prone OS? I don't blame "old people" for being confused. I'm only 33 and i find Windows pretty aggravating even though i know my way around it well.

That's just it, Mike Windows XP PRO (not home) is NOT crash-prone, like I said before, it VERY stable. As far as confusing goes, it's VERY confusing, UNLESS you switch it over to classic mode in which case it looks the same as it has since Windows 95 and if you haven't learned in 9 years how to use that, then you are just beyond hope and should buy a web-tv and a tyoewriter.

Well I have yet to experience XPP a great deal, I still use Win98 (poor). Classic mode sounds like a nice feature. My girlfriend has an i-book, and it seems a lot more stable.
Web tv is so sad, even lamer than AOL (no offense to any aol-ers). I just picture a guy unwrapping his WebTV, and saying "Look Mabel, it's the Innernet!"

I didn't mean anything by the old comment, really. It's just that windows isn't always user friendly, especially to people who aren't too familiar with computers.

Hahaha, webtv....I'll just leave it at that.

Yeah i think windows is responsible for many cases of "Senior Rage"..

Posted by: Mike at February 4, 2004 10:29 PM

Oh, and Mike...watch the aol comments. ;)

AOL defined: Internet (non)Service Provider for those who are too dumb to know better or have no other choice.

Posted by: Channon at February 5, 2004 06:26 PM

Sorry, Amy... I just think its too expensive......
Maybe if they gave you free t shirts or mcdonalds gifts certificates or something... it would be worth it!

Posted by: Mike at February 5, 2004 11:11 PM

I think AOL is good for people who are not
smart enough (to be blunt) to use any other service.
It's pretty easy to use. Again I think i offended Amy..
not my intention! But the price i think is it's big downside.. totally ridiculous.

Posted by: Mike at February 5, 2004 11:16 PM

You didn't really offend me...I use aol, but that's not why I said watch the comments. See...I like my job very much...
