Just doing my job...

"So Cobain would have become Dr. Frank. Have you ever listened to that guy's music or read his blog? He makes Blink 182 sound challenging..."

i'm sorry the internet boys are picking on you, dr. frank. i didn't know kurt cobain was still a popular discussion topic... but, i guess it's true - yesterday rules.

Posted by: Tyler at April 6, 2004 05:27 PM

Oh well, what can you do? Other than say

Tall cans in the air...

Posted by: Chrees at April 6, 2004 05:40 PM

It seems as though his own answer to that question would be "no."

Posted by: Dave Bug at April 6, 2004 06:33 PM

How funny that this Sullivan bloke writes your blogroll of "popular bloggers" is only for the sake of attention, considering you've been at this for longer than over half of them.

If it's challenging Sullivan wants, I suggest he sign up for the Special Olympics. I'm pretty sure there's an "Irredeemably Ignorant Dickhead" category.

Posted by: Emily at April 6, 2004 06:44 PM

He's not dead, I saw him at a Starbucks in Modesto.

Posted by: Elvis at April 6, 2004 09:14 PM

he's certainly wrong about the music...

mr t experience is at least slightly
more challenging than blink 182...

slightly;)

Posted by: just me at April 6, 2004 10:07 PM

"Just doing my job."

Something Sullivan wishes he could say.

Posted by: JB at April 6, 2004 11:07 PM

That sullivan guy says he's homeless. Must be using the puter at the library. Talk about a plea for attention. Who's this guy to criticize Frank? Does he think he's a music critic? Oh well, I guess by discussing him, we're probably pandering to his pleas for attention.

Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at April 7, 2004 12:04 AM

ill just pretend that character's comment is the comment he made just after that one

"My attitude on Nirvana is that Husker Du did it better. I like Nirvana, but Bob Mould and Grant Hart were the shit."

sure even that is a little short on scope or saying things that i wouldnt hear in Coconuts or something from someone looking to seem "interesting". ehh in other words. what a dope. either that, or frank has some 'splainin to dooo (??what does this mean?)

Posted by: marty at April 7, 2004 04:11 AM

Never commented on your blog before, but I felt the need today. Don't listen to him, darlin'.
You amaze me an countless others.
Some people just don't get it.

A 37-year-old Kurt Cobain wouldn't be pretty. Sure as he'd be coloring his hair, he'd have a blog. Oh lord, he'd have a blog.

Heh. Yeah, he probably would have a blog. But it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as this one.

Posted by: Michael J. Totten at April 8, 2004 12:22 AM

Sullivan is a pretentious twat.

Posted by: Rich at April 8, 2004 06:27 AM

Following up on Michael's post:

A 37 year old Cobain would be probably be in Brian Wilson-land. Entertaining, but not in the way he used to be...

Or he could be singing duets with William Huang. Either way...

Posted by: Chrees at April 8, 2004 06:29 AM

This blog is fun, I never know what is going on cause of Dr. Franks extreme smartnees

Posted by: Eamon at April 8, 2004 12:42 PM

Who knew when Cobain died that Dave Grohl would turn out to be the real talent in that group?

Anyway, I like Blink as much as anyone, but I'd like to see them write "Institutionalized Misogyny". Or even spell it.

Posted by: Ian S. at April 8, 2004 03:59 PM

Ian, both Cobain and Grohl are talents. One of them also talented at self-preservation.

i have a confession to make. being not
into carrying around an expensive mp3 type
device, and being stuck with my much shorter
cd's and the radio,i am prone to listening
to said radio. while i'd never put money into
"blink" i'm not happy unless i hear "what's my age
again or one of their MANY similiar sounding songs
at least once every couple weeks.

speaking of bands on the radio that are almost
good...since when does everybody want to be a poor
imitation of weezer? i thought trying to progress
the beatles was the thing.

Posted by: just me at April 8, 2004 08:19 PM

Hey!!!! I like Weezer. Sure, the Pinkerton album kind of stunk but everything else was cool. Yeah, Maladroit is kinda Beatles-like on a few songs, but Weezer is okay in my book.

Posted by: Zaphod beeblebrox at April 8, 2004 08:30 PM

i like weezer too,i even own pinkerton.
i was saying a lot of NEW bands are TRYING
to be like them.

Posted by: just me at April 8, 2004 09:48 PM

Hey I dont mind Foo Fighters fans (the first 2 Foo albums were really great, pity about the last 2...), but, those that start saying Dave Grohl was the talent in Nirvana really are cruising for a thorough kicking, or at the least a kicking down a couple of flights of very steep stairs. Kurt Cobain had more talent in his pubic hair than Dave Grohl had or will ever have even if he lives to be 150. End of story. Thankyou

Posted by: Danny at April 8, 2004 09:59 PM

the new blink-182 and pink albums were favorably
received by the amoeba store guide, mainly
due to the songwriting infusions of messrs. robt. smith
& tim armstrong, respectively, but
amoeba's profound lack of playa hate is
an inspiration to us all!

Posted by: amoeba_no1_fan at April 8, 2004 10:08 PM

Grohl, the real talent in Nirvana? At drums.. sure.
At untouchably great songwriting/singing.. no.
I think KC still holds that title, even from the grave.
All this is blazingly obvious to anyone with any sense at all.

Posted by: Mike at April 8, 2004 11:42 PM

I'd take Dave Grohl any day over Kurt Cokehead. Kurt was so wasted out of his mind that the lyrics fell out of his ass....he could kind of be compared to Jim Morrison perhaps. Dave Grohl can write lyrics, sing lyrics, write music for multiple instruments, play music on multiple instruments. I don't know, Grohl may be a heroin fiend too, but I just can't have any respect for somebody who is/was a junkie. This includes Elvis too. Not to say that I don't like the music of Nirvana or Elvis, I just can't respect them.

Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at April 9, 2004 12:44 AM

Yeah Cya! Bye!

Posted by: Danny at April 9, 2004 01:31 AM

"Sure, the Pinkerton album kind of stunk"-Zaphod beeblebrox
Hum no, Pinkerton fuckin rocks! I would say that it's the best Weezer album! It doesn't stink at all!

Posted by: Mike at April 9, 2004 04:54 AM

Pinkerton is a great album.

Posted by: Joe at April 9, 2004 08:49 AM

You guys liked Pinkerton? KEWL!!!!! I'm going to have to listen to it again, it's stored safely in my iPod. The only song I really recall liking from it was El Scorcho. I've been doing a lot of listening to Green and Maladroit.

Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at April 9, 2004 06:29 PM

Nobody respects you either Zaphod.
Mostly because of your jackass, convoluted ideas about music. You think saying insulting non-factual things about Kurt CObain or any dead rockstar is original??

Posted by: Mike at April 9, 2004 07:39 PM

by the way i agree cobain was a junkie, and morrison a drunk... i'm not arguing that, but why not judge musicians based on their music, not lifestyle. and lyrics coming out of his ass?? what does that even mean??? "i was so wasted i wrote an opera...dude."

Posted by: m at April 9, 2004 08:00 PM

Calm down dude....It's only rock n' roll.....I DO like their music btw...

Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at April 9, 2004 10:47 PM

My opinion of Kurt Cobain:
His lyrics were merely cryptic little phrases lumped together to make a song; sometimes they worked, other times they didn't. His Journals are incredibly stupid... was this guy 15 his entire life? He misspells every other word, his grammar is terrible and his rants are, at best, glorified teen angst that carried well in to his mid-twenties. This isn't to say that Nirvana was all bad... they had moments of greatness, sure; however, Cobain is not the man that many people seem to think he is: He just wasn't all that bright.

Having said this, I must also include that Blink 182 are, quite simply, terrible.

As are the Foo Fighters.

That is all.

Posted by: Dave Danger at April 13, 2004 06:49 PM

I like them both, Dave. I guess I just suck.

Posted by: Zaphod Beeblebrox at April 14, 2004 12:26 AM

You like both Blink 182 and the Foo Fighters? It doesn't necessarily mean that you "suck", but you certainly are a fan of radio-friendly pap.
Which isn't meant as a personal attack; you're reading Dr. Frank's blog, you obviously have a brain, but I can not - I will not - defend these bands.

Posted by: Dave Danger at April 14, 2004 07:15 PM

I also must say that I agree that Kurt was just pulling lyrics out of his over-medicated ass. Good
call on that one.

Posted by: Dave Danger at April 14, 2004 07:17 PM

oh yes, we are all smart.

i like "blink" a little bit,i just won't put any money into them...

now Barry Manilow on the other hand...

Posted by: just me at April 14, 2004 08:04 PM

hey its dave danger everyone! wow he's punk.

rock on zaphod.

Posted by: a Fan at April 14, 2004 10:48 PM

"hey its dave danger everyone! wow he's punk.

rock on zaphod."

Jesus fucking Christ, guys, I didn't come on here spewing shit about punk rock politics or anything of that nature... I just voiced my opinions. If you don't agree, hey, that's cool. I'm not here to make you all agree with me... I don't have that kind of time, and it probably wouldn't work anyway. But I don't think I need shit like this:

"hey its dave danger everyone! wow he's punk.

rock on zaphod."

I mean, come on.

A) Learn to use punctuation, and
B) Refer to the opening of this post.

Posted by: Dave Danger at April 15, 2004 08:02 PM

Hey, if you guys are going to start flaming, then just leave me out of it. I'm just another asshole with an opinion.

Posted by: Zaphod Bebblebrox at April 15, 2004 10:21 PM

Dave, don't make a mountain out of a molehill. You get that riled up over two sentences? Relax dude. Don't end up like Sid.

P.S. girls love guys who correct grammar and punctuation. i heard they think its real sexy.

Posted by: a fan at April 16, 2004 12:08 AM

All right, man. Sorry about insulting you; I appreciate your sense of humour about it. You're cool in my book. And my book is pretty freakin' cool.

Posted by: Dave Danger at April 16, 2004 10:49 PM

no problem, i get insulted all the time. price you pay for being a rogue. rock on dave
