Uncomfortably Warm

When you're in a band, people often present you with pictures they have drawn of you. Quite a few examples double as school projects of some kind. Some have been drawn from album art, some from life, some from memory. And some from one knows not where. Like a lot of stuff in this life, some of them can be quite good, and some totally retarded. Some are so bizarre that you really can't decide whether they're good or retarded. Maybe that makes them Real Art? Who knows?

In one way, common as it is, it's a pretty weird thing to do. I've never done it myself. (That is to say, I've never handed Robyn Hitchcock a pen and ink commemorative portrait after a gig. In fact, I've never tried to draw Robyn Hitchcock. Which is all to the good, believe me.)

In another way, though, it's kind of sweet. They're showing that they appreciate what you do. I have a pretty extensive collection of these by now. They make me feel a little uncomfortable, but I also feel warmly towards them and the people who drew them. That is, they make me feel uncomfortably warm, which is nicer than it sounds.

Anyway, here's a nice one I recently got via email by a Minneapolitan. Nice girl. Art student. Rocker.

So there it is. And here's one more promise I'll get back to babbling into the void about things of which I know little (i.e., blogging) soon enough. I've been working on other writing and recording and so forth. Plus, the world is crazy right now and I can't even begin to sort it out at the moment, so till I do you're going to be on your own. I worry

well i'm no artist, so i never bothered 2 draw you a picture. I did, however, site you in my speech in which i recently presented to the student body 2 perswade them into handing their lives over to me next year as their Student Council President...and as fate would have it - I WON! XD It's quite the Xciting, i never thought i would ever have a chance, concidering i was up against I-play-sports-all-year-'round Jockstrap of the school. If only he included
"No, no we're never gonna fake it
C'mon now, get in line
Put your life right on the line"
maybe he would of have a chance! ha ha ha

thanks Dr. Frank for your aid in my grand victory = )

I worry that the student body president of that school spells persuade, "perswade". She at least could have made it a comfortable fabric and gone with persuede.

I'm surprised that makes you uncomfortable. I thought her artwork was pretty good. It seems like it was a nice gesture and not a hehehehehe I'm stalking the Doktor kind of thing. Anyway, if that makes you a little uncomfortable what about if somebody decided to make an MTX comic book and give you guys superhero personas or something? Perhaps somebody expanded upon the "And I Will Be With You" video and decided to make their own little MTX/Hanna Barbara cartoon world in which Frank, Jym, Ted and Bobby solve mysteries with a talking dog? I'm sorry to have frightened you Frank. I'll go back to the studio now.

You know, i could've done this in a superhero suit, but i think yer pretty super as it is. It warmed my heart that you put it up!!! thanx frank.

Recording, eh? I think following the success of TROY and with Frank's extensive knowledge of the subject matter...can a "Dr. Frank and the Women of Antiquity" album be far off? Time to make the liberal arts degree pay off!

A fine portrait of you used to hang in my apartment, painted by my good friend Gus. Unfortunately, he wanted it back, so now it hangs in his apartment. I believe the basis for the painting was the Night Shift cover, so at least you look young and dashing, or rather, young and sitting against a wall.

In some odd way, the drawing could also be Robyn Hitchcock..
