Time has not been kind to George, but then neither has anyone else who’s not in military custody.

Plenty of good lines in this Galloway profile by A. A. Gill.

Dreadnoughts, I say!

I'm just beginning to steep myself in the politics of this place, but I've been disappointed to see that the difference between Labour and Conservative parties is roughly the same as that between Democratic and Republican in the U.S. Locally, however, it seems that the Lib Dems have made more progress than their equivalents stateside.

The one thing British politics has got going for it is the Manifesto. Any political party worth its salt ought to have a manifesto, preferably one with a capital M. This, ultimately, is where American politicians have fallen down on the job.

P.S. Frank, are you eligible for dual citizenship?

Well, every party in the US has a manifesto or at least a platform, but that doesn't ensure that they're widely distributed, read or followed. Just a formality, really; is it that different in the UK?
Anyone know if there's been much change in the King/Galloway race since the egg throwing incident last week?
Also from harry's place, it looks like the Telegraph is appealing the 150k GBP libel suit Galloway won last year. That oughta be interesting.

marc, I'm not sure if they're read any more frequently, but they seem much more newsworthy -- you don't often see the word "manifesto" in a U.S. newspaper. Unless used derogatorily and coupled with "Communist".

Off-topic for this post, but still interesting:
