Civilization is Trying to Find a New Way to Die

For those who might be interested, here's the first real advance review of King Dork. Warning: includes excerpts, spoilers, and Who lyrics.

Richie Partington is one lucky stiff. He apparently read an advance copy of King Dork AND he has a baby goat. Thanks for whetting my literary appetite. Do we really have to wait until April 2006?

I could swear it's "suaveness", not "wildness". Your quote or Richie's? Ouroborosly enough, though, I am probably the one to blame for the propagation of "wildness" as I seem to have mistranscribed it when making the Hypertext Who site (now thewho.net) a decade ago...

Great reveiw, but when are you going to write a real book?

Posted by: josh at June 22, 2005 08:02 PM

so is it safe to say you really DID write a book about rock & roll?

I was going to read this review, then I saw it contained Who lyrics and I decided to wait for the book. Honestly, though, I'm not interested in spoilers right now.

i couldn't resist, had to see what its about,so i read most of the snippet and skimmed from there.

i think it will be mostly harmless.

Ouch, me. That's the worst review I've ever got for anything. However, I take solace in the notion that it will be at least a little harmful...

hey don't worry,i've been wrong before. if it turns out to be so terribly not harmless i'm sure i can find someone to let you know.

Oh my, I am so excited.

Harvard, Doc?! I had no idea.

Beth, you got it, I got it and I think the good Doktor actually missed this subtle reference for once in his life. I guess we're all allowed ONE mistake, right?

Frank,
JustMe was referring to the Hitchhiker's Guide when she said "Mostly Harmless" which is great because I found myself thinking the same thing when I read the "definitions" and the little excerpt about tennis. I said "this reminds me of how in Douglas Adams' book the guide interjects it's or Prefect's thoughts, definitions and opinions on people, places and things." I found this brilliant actually.

My one criticism though, after reading just this little excerpt I believe it's going to be a bit above the reading comprehension level of the intended YA audience.

Bang up job Frank. I can't wait to read the whole thing.

oh,i'm sure he got it,but even if not i did have a double meaning in mind.
it sounds like there might be a sketchy moment or two and every time is a good time for a Hitchhiker's Guide reference.

(no still haven't seen the new movie, not sure if i will. there have been mixed reviews from trustable people.)

To be truthful, I wasn't impressed by the snippet about playing tennis. I have a strong feeling that he probably could have found more entertaining pasages to quote. The definitions were funny as hell, and the idea for an album title called "Margaret, It's God. Shut up." is hilarious. My mom never taught me that thing about "if you don't have anything nice to say than don't say anything at all." I don't know what I'm trying to accomplish by saying I didn't really like that section about tennis. But at least you know when I do compliment something it is meaningful... right? Yeah. Of course. That's why. I'm sure the book will be great, I'll buy it no matter what, I guess it's more of a complaint about what excerpt he chose than the book itself. Time will tell....

Right on Frank!
I don't want to be spoiled, so I'm going to wait.
But that is excellent that is in a reviewable state.
