What a Load of Bloody Row

So the MTX is playing at Slim's in San Francisco on July 23rd with the Groovie Ghoulies, the Teenage Bottle Rockets, the Teenage Harlets, and Sabrina Stewart.

On the same night, God willing, I'm going to stop by at the Swedish American Hall to play a couple three acoustic songs to aid the West Memphis Three. It's a benefit and it also stars Jonathan Richman, Chuck Prophet and others. I'm not sure what time I'll be playing, but it'll probably be on the early side of the evening because of the Slim's gig.

any east coast tours in the works?

Frank, that sounds like a great night -- MTX and you and Jonathan Richman. Could you and Jojo switch set lists for your solo gig? You could sing "A Plea for Tenderness" and "Vincent van Gogh", and he could do "Bitter Homes and Gardens" and "How'd the Date End?" Has he written a song yet about MTX?

And I think it's cool that you're doing the benefit, especially when you're doing the MTX gig on the same night. I noticed that Congressman and former electoral-thrashing-recipient Dan Lungren introduced a bill in Congress to "streamline" habeas corpus -- meaning fewer appeals for people on death row. does this mean i have to cross the bay? why can't anything good happen in the east bay? going to san francisco, even for an obstensible good cause, is just too much work.

Got my tickets last week and very much looking forward to it. I just moved here a couple months ago and Slim's is my new favorite venue (although DuNord is a close second).

its not that hard to get to shows in SF, im in the east bay, (berkeley) and ill go to any show in SF im interested in that comes up, its just a matter of taking BART across the bay because you cant drive there.
DuNord is good, ive seen some cool people there- Graham Parker, 50 Foot Wave, but more often then not they have 21+ shows which a.i dont agree with, and b.i cant go to.

nick, it's a hassle to walk to work in the morning, so it's too much trouble to even go to san francisco (even by BART). i used to be like you, but then i turned 21 and the whole world went sour.

huzzah!! i would be a wee bit torked you are AGAIN playing in same proximity to a Aquabats show but its on the earlier Tuesday. I gots stuff to then and nobody wants to go on a Tuesday. So this year I'll probably skip and just see MTX.

But per info if ye need to know the Aquabats were super and sold out last year,it will be sad to miss them.

I'd love to you see you come down to L.A. soon. Last time I was supposed to see MTX I got pneumonia. Wait, scratch that. Don't come until summer's over because maybe the fact I was going to see you guys was the impetus for the onset pneumonia in the summertime.

and just me-- hurray for the aquabats. This last album and e.p. are terrible, however, save for a few songs.

i think you are talking about the one with "Hey Luno". If i'm right I did get that it wasn't traditional Aquabats in the traditional sense, but I still like it. There are some mediocre songs but mostly I think what its just that they run through a gamut of styles instead of their usual cleanish punkish skaish selves.

Particularly I like "Adventure Today".
But enough non-MTX talk I suppose.

Posted by: just me at July 7, 2005 08:59 PM

Actually I'm talking about "Yo, Check Out This Ride!" [or somesuch] e.p. and the new album "Charge!" which came out, like, only a month ago.
Those are pretty bad.
I do like the Amazing Adventures album however. "The Wild Sea" is my favorite on there.

/end non-Frank talk. But hey, feel free to email me for 'Bat talk.

people still like the aquabats? huh?

Posted by: kendra at July 7, 2005 11:19 PM

heck yes!(one last bit of bat talk i guess)

as i was saying, and i truly do loath to remind all, last year the aquabats played in close dote proximity to good old mtx and rocked the house down! super sold out! the mtx which was earlier and still awesome, but noticebly quieter.

i know you guys can do better this year! i sadly can't offer comparision this year though,i just can't do tuesday night shows usually.

When do you come to the Netherlands again?

Posted by: Dree-Cool at July 8, 2005 11:33 AM

I was excited to see TBR and Groovie Ghoulies until I found out that it is possible to seem them WITH MTX. I sure hope someone finds a way to teleport by then.

i was kind of bummed that you weren't able to play the Anarchy Library in Downey, CA that last time... but then i found out that it was 21+, so i suppose that it was all for the best. or not. i dunno.

but come back to L.A. sometime soon. 'cause, you know, you should <3
