With friends like these...

story.bear.gi.jpg

"Feeding by hand is not species-appropriate but a gross violation of animal protection laws," animal rights activist Frank Albrecht was quoted as saying by the mass-circulation Bild daily, which has featured regular photo spreads tracking fuzzy Knut's frolicking.

"The zoo must kill the bear."

That bear is just so damned cute. I guess cubs like that is where they came up with the idea or at least model of Teddy Bears from (although they were named after Theodore Roosevelt).

i read this story today and felt sad, what with polar bear numbers depleating you'd have thought that they'd want him to stay alive.

Who is he to say that the zoo should have killed the bear? He says that mother nature should have been allowed to take her course, but you don't see people doing that with infants! If an infant's mother rejects him, he may suffer from failure to thrive syndrome and die. That's why hospitals and social services step in, to save the life of the baby. Why should it be any different for polar bears, who are in danger of extinction?

I thought animal rights came from a deeper concern for life, and a creature's right to live. Frank Albrecht has his priorities all wrong, and should not be allowed to call himself an animal rights anything. At best, he obviously hates animals.

What a freaking idiot! Are we going to start killing children in the foster care system because their mothers abandoned them?! Frank is an idiot!

What that guy is saying is that it may have been better for the bear to have died than have been saved by the zoo.

Polar bears really want to die, but can't kill themselves because of deeply held religious conviction.

on the count of three.
1 ... 2 ... 3!

awwwwwwwww...

the bear is too damned cute. i know he'll grow up to be a ruthless killer, but for now, i want to snorgle it.

I would rather have Frank Albrecht put to death, so he stops wasting valuable oxygen. This little bear is far more valuable to this planet then him.

I don't understand this man. If this bear was ignored by the mother, it was the mother that perhaps had her instincts messed up. What do we do with human babies who's mothers don't want to care for them. Human babies who get wrapped up and tossed in the trash. Why do we prosecute these people if they are just following their natural instinct. Give me a break. I'm glad the zoo took the initiative and stood their ground.

I guess the new bumper stickers must read:

"Club baby bears not baby seals."
