The Dog Eat Dog, Cut Throat World of Morris Dancing

David T. notes a swell case of wikipedia vandalism.

Stan Rogers did a funny bit about morris dancers on his Home in Halifax record, based on his description I'm not so sure this was a case of vandalism.

Wierd. I just learned what Morris dancing was a couple of days ago from a random walk through wikipedia.

I didn't realize it at the time, but I am now nearly certain that there was a group of Morris dancers putting on a little demonstration at the ferry terminal in Alameda this morning. Odd bunch. They were sort of hopping and scurrying around, banging sticks together at times. I think they were wearing bells around their legs. Odd bunch, indeed.

Wikipedia is the devil. I say someone organize a mass vandalism campaign against it. All they can do in response is revert to the latest version, pre-vandalism, and lock and protect the entries from further editing. This means not only vandalism will be blocked, but all editing.

If enough entries are targeted and end up being locked in this fashion, this would, of course, kill the whole raison d'etat of Wikipedia. No one can edit and make up their own truths anymore. It will be stuck in its own muck.

I changed the pages for VESTAL VIRGIN and DRUNKENESS to feature pictures of myself.

I also changed the GG ALLIN page to say that he was deeply inspired by Nina Simone and featured a quote of him saying he was the king of rock n roll and also "a big fan of the blues".

haw.
