Another Day Off Work, Another Present to Buy...

Not really. But April 1 will be Cheap Trick Day in Illinois, if the votes go the right way.

Guitarist Rick Nielsen got a warm welcome when he visited the state Senate today. He told lawmakers that the band's achievements include not being convicted of a felony within the past ten years.

News travels fast...Personally, I was heartened to see that our elected officials in Springfield are taking a much-needed break from all that bothersome discussion about whether we will have monthly government shutdowns and institute regular fare increases for public transportation. Regardless, I still want Illinois to want Cheap Trick.

Great band, even though possibly 80% of their extensive output was...eh. But what a great twenty percent. ELO Kiddies! ELO Kiddies!

Everyday is Cheap Trick day in my world!

"Great band, even though possibly 80% of their extensive output was...eh. But what a great twenty percent. ELO Kiddies! ELO Kiddies!"

I'd be kinder and say 60% of their extensive output, etc. But you're right: they've released a lot of crap, but all it takes is one spin through "Surrender" "He's A Whore" "Auf Widershen" (sp?) the live yersion of "IWYTWM"… and all is forgiven. What can I say?

I saw them at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, 1979. Awesome.

For Live at Budokan alone they should have an entire American state named after them.

The first four albums plus Budokan, that is it. You can stop there. But for that golden streak, they are immortals of Rock.

Last time I visited my 2-year-old nephew, I was pleasantly amused to discover that at the Chuck E. Cheese in Rockford, IL (CT's hometown), the creepy band of anthropomorphic robot animals plays "I Want You To Want Me."

it sounds completely awesome.

"The first four albums plus Budokan, that is it."

Heck on further review I'd go even further and add All Shook Up...fun album except for the parts when they weren't trying to be the second coming of the Beatles (uh...one listen of World's Greatest Lover is one too many...but otherwise a swell album).

i realized we have left out their fine cover of "Ain't That A Shame" So really there's a top 3 awesome songs. The question is: Are Cheap Tricks three awesome songs(Ain't That A Shame,I want You to Want Me,Surrender)enough to allow them to take over April Fool's Day and probably other also quite notable days?

My answer: Surrender. That's all I have to say.

I think their best songs are:
He's a Whore
Surrender
Dream Police
Southern Girls
One On One
If You Want My Love
Oh Caroline
Lookout
Stop This Game
She's Tight
Tonight It's You

Oh I could go on and on. Obviously I'm a super fan.

I'd kill to hear a Chuck E. Cheese robot band play "She Turned Out To Be Crazy."
