If you want to see just how long four minutes and forty-five seconds can be...

...click on this youtube PSA of condescending reverse-psychology celebri-torture. How long can you stand it? I made it all the way to around 0:34, but that's only because of my nerves of steel and can of Hamm's.

Since I don't have nerves of steel, I had to imagine them practicing to do that commercial... Like Leo DiCaprio saying "polar ice caps" over and over in front of a mirror, all the time combing his eyebrows.

Ah, the old reverse-reverse psychology.

It was excruciating but I was able to make it through the whole thing thanks to that single beaming light of awesome that is Jonah Hill.

"I've had 19 kids! Never used abortion once!"

To think the maniac who thought that PSA had to be 5 minutes long is running around free sends a chill down my spine.

Ugh...I made it to 45 seconds!

I'm pretty sure Leo knows what he's talking about. He was taking notes at the debates, so...

Ah, detached cynicism -- so punk rawk, and so yawn-inducing. Let us all collectively accept (read: get over) the fact that celebrities and quasi ones with awesome bands and books will use various forums (say, blogs, for instance) to get their ideas across? Granted, the stars probably didn't write their own parts, but all of these people obviously think voting's important. Don't you think it's important to vote? I can't help but feel that your real gripe is that young people, if registered to vote, will vote Democrat.

Eh, Avi? I doubt "young people" will be decisive here, despite this brilliant PSA, but I fully expect Obama to win this year anyway, and in fact I consider it a consummation more or less devoutly to be wished, all things considered. Seriously, though, you really enjoyed watching that whole thing? You didn't, like get the basic idea after the first minute or so? Well, I salute your attention span, sir.

Isn't the counter-gripe that the real reason Democrats are so interested in getting out the vote because most non-voters would likely vote Democratic? The "vote or die" philosophy loses some of its moral heft when you realize there's little risk in the stance for Democrats. Doesn't make voting wrong, but it also doesn't make it any less partisan.
