Any Movie News?

Practically every conversation I ever have with anyone eventually gets around to this question. What they're wondering about is the status of potential King Dork film. For some time now I really haven't had much of an answer.

The option was originally acquired by Gary Sanchez Productions (the Will Ferrell/McKay company) and Paramount Vantage. When the option was not renewed in December, the whole thing was kind of in limbo, and frankly its prospects were looking pretty dismal. This happens with many such projects, the vast majority of them, or so I understand.

But as unlikely as it seemed, a new deal was reached just this week. The King Dork movie: it lives. This time around it is Sony Pictures. Same producers (Gary Sanchez.) Seth Gordon, the guy who did King of Kong, is attached to direct.

This doesn't necessarily mean it'll get made but it is way more likely than it was last month.

Hopefully you can appear in it as a cameo or something. That would be cool.

Plus, you should think about what song would be good over the closing credits. My personal favorite (aside from the obvious "King Dork") would be "You You You," because I think it's one of the best songs ever written, and it's the right tempo for credit music.

That's good news, Frank. I think it would make a terrific movie, but I imagine it's something you have very little direct control over so it's something you have to kind of let go of to some extent.

Would the rights to use all the songs/albums that Sam listens to be a problem? It's a film that demands a very specific soundtrack. Could that add a lot of expense to a movie that a studio plans as an inexpensive (read, no CGI) project?

Freaking rad.

I agree that other than the songs mentioned in the book, there must be some of your own music in the film. It just wouldn't be right for there not to be.

Sorry but even though I've read through the book at least 3 times, I cannot remember all of the teachers. If there was a history teacher then that would have to be your cameo.

Frank, is there a screenplay for this yet? Would you be hired to write it?
