Posted by: cary at July 9, 2009 12:50 AMBorn in Texas, raised in Elkart Indiana, eh? Midwesterners are a funny thing when it comes to dialect (I too am a Midwesterner). People in this region either sound like a hick from Tennessee, have a plain and non-descript dialect that makes for excellent newscasters or as in my case sound like somebody from Northern Michigan or Ontario Canada. I'm sure she has a lovely voice but I would imagine somebody from Frank's books either having the Cali Valley sounding dialect, the non-descript dialect or an English accent.

I come from a largely Swedish community here in Kansas (and there are many of them here in Kansas, as well as the Dakotas and especially Minnesota)...and so a lot of us (I am half Swede myself) sound like the pregnant highway patrol trooper in the movie Fargo. You betcha.
