Some Broken Hearts Never Mend

Nothing brings out the melancholy like Don Williams's low-key presence and nearly affectless delivery. This song never fails to leave me misty-eyed (it did just now) and there are quite a few others that have that effect as well.

I always found it curious that a guy from the bay area who was in a punk band would be so into country music. As a teenager growing up in Tennessee I did everything I could to avoid it but in my 30's I've come to appreciate it. Anyhow, great song.

I understand the impulse to flee from whatever is all around, and maybe that's part of the reason I decided to go around saying I like country music, because in my Bay Area, it was very common to say things like "country music isn't either." So, like, a mirror image of the TN you're describing. However, even if it initially was or may have been just a pose, the songs drew me in. For me it has always been about the songwriting, even from very early on, and you don't get much better songs than Nashville in the 70s.
