How to Dress Punk for Girls

This is actually not too awfully bad, but it misses most of the story. For one thing, the whole retro element is lost. Wearing a 1940s dress can be punk. Wearing Jeans and a tshirt can be punk. But the thing that makes a woman punk is her face and makeup more than anything, and this lady misses that entirely. Wearing a Mod style dress, but with Cleopatra eye makeup and bright red lipstick, you shade over into punk. Also, there is usually an element of incongruous mixing to it -- a prom dress but with black sneakers, or contrariwise, ripped jeans, but with high heeled pumps. Or a blouse with lace on it, but with army surplus pants. There is also an element of disreputability, veering all the way into trampiness and trashiness. Again, on a woman that is often the makeup. Ripped clothes or mismatched clothes can provide also provide that element.

The subject of what makes a woman's presentation "punk" is a vast and terribly fascinating subject.

"if you want to dress "punk," you have to avoid wearing anything a normal person would wear, such as my fur vest."
