I am so in favour of these opinion. Great use of storage, man!

I've turned the comments back on, just to see if I can bear what spam may come after the little break. If it gets bad again all of sudden, I'll have no problem turning them off again. Honestly, it was kind of nice not to have to worry about it. However, if there's a lull, followed by a deluge down the road, it's possible that I won't get around to turning them off again. That's what usually happens.

For some reason, though, turning the comments back on globally doesn't seem to have affected the last few posts. But, you know, it is what it is.

RE, the previous post, since comments aren't working over there: It has been a long time since I was so annoyed by an article, as I was by that Wilkenson one. The thing that bugged me the most is how he kept using words like "conjecture," and "my best guess," as if they were a function of his extreme "openness." Not to say that expressing doubts is bad, where they're actually felt, far from it. But claiming to "conjecture" as a way to rhetorically take the edge off of a set of awfully non-open minded generalizations, just so that they'll work better in an argument ABOUT being open minded, is just so very crass and mealy-mouthed. It's like he's saying, "I'm not like those non-open minded people...except in my supreme ability to recognize them, though it PAINS me to stoop so low." Blagh. Sicks me out.

Wilkinson has really swallowed modern psych whole hog. I remember when the libertarian position was that the "social sciences" were post hoc justifications for socially engineering a more "progressive" world. Well, I don't actually remember it; it was 60 years ago, but it definitely was.
