A lot can happen in six months

The Washington Post has now absorbed two of the blogosphere's most important, long-standing libertarian-ish voices, Radley Balko and the Volokh Conspiracy.

I haven't read any commentary on this (though I'm sure it's out there) but it's obviously reason enough to appreciate the new Bezos/Amazon WaPo regime. These are voices that deserve to be heard, and amplified, particularly Balko's.

Unfortunately, there's a (deferred) cost: after a six month adjustment period, this content will, it appears, be trundled behind the WaPo's fairly breach-able paywall. (This is true of the Volokh blog at least; but I've been reading Balko since it began and haven't hit any walls yet.) It won't affect the casual reader overmuch, and as the Volokh post points out, there are easy if cumbersome ways around it if you are determined to find them, but it also undermines the voices-that-deserve-to-be-heard cheer rationale mentioned above. Nevertheless, a lot can happen in half a year.

At any rate, two cheers for Bezos. There are ways to earn that third cheer. Including access in the Amazon Prime package would work for me.
