Widows and Orphans

Ah, finally figured out how to turn off the thing in Pages where it changes "--" to an m-dash (or something) and miniaturizes "..." It's "Substitutions" in the edit menu. I wrote a whole book being helplessly incensed by that effrontery. (Of course it is miles and miles better than MSW, which seems to change random things randomly and to switch them back on mysteriously even when you do manage to find the strange places where the off-switches are hidden.)

I can't be the only person who would prefer that the default be that what you actually type is what is displayed and saved, but at least I figured this one out.

Incidental to my search, I found a check box for "prevent widows and orphans," under a category called "More." It never occurred to me to expect my word processor to address this issue, but it seems like a laudable goal. Glad to know my typing is doing its part. You can thank me by buying my book.
