King Dork Update

So I finished the fourth draft of King Dork earlier this week. It appears that it's going to be the final one, more or less - though I guess you never know. There's a whole other phase of copy editing and other correction mechanisms in store, though I admit I don't know too much about that yet. This whole process is new to me. Now we're discussing stuff like the cover art and "flap copy" and "blurbs" and so forth.

I've got this weird summer vacation feeling now. I mean, for the last nine months or so I had this kind of homework assignment/term project always in the background, when it wasn't in the foreground. Now, suddenly, I turned it in and it's out of my hands, and I don't totally know what to do with myself. What did I used to do when I didn't have King Dork to work on? I forget.

The book has songs in it, and I'm planning to work on some demos of them. That'll keep me busy. I should really start writing another novel, actually, because it takes so long, but right now it's kind of hard to imagine.

It's supposed to come out in Spring 2006 on Delacorte, so there's still a lot of time to fret about it and try figure out what to do till then. I'll let you know if I do.

Oh I'm so excited! I just finished George Tabb's book. Though I do expect yours to be better.

If you need any help with titles for the sequel,
I vote for "King Dork Approximately" (perhaps that's the soundtrack). Followed closely by "The Dork Vinci Code".

what about Dorkaroni and Cheese?

I suggest you stop by www.bobanddavid.com and consider using some of Bob Odenkirk's blurbs.

Frank,
Have you ever considered a vactaion? I mean a REAL vacation, going to a ski-lodge and sipping coffee and baileys between runs or going to hawaii and sipping on pineapple-coladas while a beautiful hula girl has her grass skirt waving in the breeze? You work too hard man.

Luke has a good idea, how about letting us buy signed copies from you so that we don't have to stalk errrrrrr I mean hunt you down at the nearest Barnes and Nobles for the inevitable book signings?

on a scale from 1 to 10 how do you rate your book, frank?

just be honest and we'll deduct a point because of the obvious bias. unless you're self-conscious, in which case we'll add a point (not to exceed 10 total points). but if you're bi-polar, we'll average out the bias vs. self-consciousness situation by not adding or subtracting any points.

i hope you have a calculator handy.

Awesome. Can't wait.

Congrats, but when you say "It's supposed to come out in Spring 2006 on Delacorte," it sounds like you're releasing an album on a record label called Delacorte. You should say, "It is being published by Delacorte."

Good point, Alexander S. I really should try to learn to talk the talk.

I'm there dude.

the "about the author" section might read:

Dr. Frank is a dork.

Thanks for the tip on the bio, Mike.

I take Frank, from what little I know of him, to be a rather sensitive person, perhaps even born under the sign of Pisces. I do hope he wasn't offended by the jacketflap bio suggestion, nor offended by my acknowledgement that it is a fine idea. People like self-depreciating humor far more than they like reading about where some author lives and what kind of pet they own.
I'm actually quite excited about the prospect of this book. When I first heard about it until recently, it was like Chinese Democracy or The Simpsons Movie; things you hear about but know you will never see come to fruition.
Now, however, I'm getting the feeling that a Dr. Frank book is really on the way. Pretty rad.
I don't know the song "king dork" though. I have that ..and the women who love them special addition cd, is it on that?
What other MTX songs would be good book titles? No Milk Today, but that's not really a MTX song. What's In The Cuckoo Clock? has a nice ring to it.

I'm confused (big suprise!). King Dork is scheduled for Spring 2006 on Delacorte or does this refer to another book? The paragraph preceding the release date paragraph talks about "another novel."

confused,

No, lucky, there's only one "it" so far.

Posted by: Dr. Frank at April 4, 2005 08:18 PM

Quality over quantity. Thanks for the clarification.

p.s. I just read that the Harvard liberian lost her case against Harvard.

As for MTX songs that would make good book titles, I think there are scores. You could be the pop punk Mary Faulkner. Just off the top of my head:

Swiss Army Girlfriend
Revenge is Sweet and So Are You
Semi-OK
Love Manifesto
Are You There God, It's Me Margaret (thought I'd run it by Legal first)

Posted by: DHarveyOswald at April 5, 2005 09:57 PM

i don't know about the rest but Love Manifesto definately sounds like a pretty sweet book title.

that's the sequel right there.

I don't know... I kind of like Restraining Order
