Wish I Had Said That

A good one from Dave Barry, via one of Andrew Sullivan's correspondents:

The Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of celery. They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club.

The worst place in the world to either be a, or look at, Democrats, is the Bay Area.

There are plenty of dumb ones elsewhere, but that's because they are a lot like people.

There are lots of great Republicans, but the problem with them tends to be that they don't notice things outside of their neighborhood.

The thing is, San Francisco Democrats are actually not, you know, much like other Democrats, any more than Orange County Republicans are like other Republicans. Basically, most of these folks lack a grasp.

"The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected."

Basically the same thing from ole Gilbert Keith.

I haven't checked the cite, but I believe that line's from P.J. O'Rourke, not Dave Barry.

Chan, that seemed pretty plausible, so I googled the quote and every link I looked at attributed it to Dave Barry, none to P.J.

I'm surprsied no one commented: "you will, Frank, you will..."

Here ya go, Frank:

"Dr. Frank is like a stream of bat's piss."

Democrats would ruin your car for free, while Republicans would use the opportunity to ruin your car and your life savings by charging you for their incompetence.

It all depends on what kind of car you're driving. Caddy broke down? Give him a few grand, I'm sure he'll get it fixed. Busted Geo? Dude don't deserve squat. It wasn't much of a car anyway.

In my galloping senescence, I've confused the Barry quote with the P.J. "God/Santa Claus" compare/contrast bit. I stand corrected! Cheers.
