Accept the things you can't change...

Yikes! I'm just sorry he's Canadian.

Posted by: Lynn at November 15, 2004 05:16 PM

I see the good Doctor has also found that particular site. Is it just me, or is there just something incredibly off-putting in the utter audacity of these people?

I mean geez, I didn't vote for him either. Get over it and try being proactive instead of smugly and ruefully cute.

Posted by: Kid Somnambulist at November 15, 2004 05:28 PM

well, personally, i like the site. my favorite thing about it though is the people who aren't from the US saying things like "we forgive you, keep hope" or "your friends in france still loves you" or things like that. it's nice to be reassured that americans aren't hated everywhere. but i guess part of being american is not caring what people in other countries think of you because dammit, you're in the best country in the world! woooooo!!!
guess i'm unpatriotic.

Posted by: r a e d y at November 15, 2004 05:55 PM

Ugh...Let it go man......let it go.

Posted by: Zaphod at November 15, 2004 06:09 PM

i like ruefully cute(and Canadians)...that phrase is officially in my everyday vocabulary.;)

Posted by: just me at November 15, 2004 06:30 PM

I get annoyed at these people posting these pointless apology pics, but at least they're not scary, like the KKK, militiamen, and general creeps over at werenotsorry.com. (Though that site seems to be down now.)

Posted by: dave bug at November 15, 2004 08:18 PM

Yeah, he can do something if he cares so @#$%ing much. Move to America, take the citizenship test, pay taxes and vote. Of course, then he'd have to suffer under the evil junta of the un-elected Bushitler regime and probably get his ass kicked by some Republikkkan who is afraid of furriners.

Posted by: Emily at November 15, 2004 08:32 PM

I don't understand what message they're trying to convey, to tell you the truth. It looks like they're trying to make the USA look like a country where you're either a fat dumb racist conservative or a whiny snivelling liberal apologist.

Posted by: davey at November 15, 2004 08:46 PM

So the kid looks like a weenie and is a little less than artistic. If his point is that he doesn't like that being Canadian allows him no voice, aren't we justifying that by talking about his audacity to try to have a voice despite being Canadian?
The Economist estimates the the total has reached 100,000 deaths as a result of the war. That's a lot of lives to end for justifications that, at this point, rely a little too heavily on the sunk cost fallacy. I say let all the poeple of the world never stop being whiny little bitches about it.

Posted by: josh at November 15, 2004 08:50 PM

i have only one thing to say about that second picture.

and that is "ha ha ha"<---not sarcastic, actually laughing.

i say we take a vote to see whether they all get "FUKN TUFF" knuckle tats. i vote yea.

Posted by: r a e d y at November 15, 2004 08:52 PM

josh, sweetie, the thing i've realized is that this comments section is a place to make fun of liberal weenies who are less than artistic, or canadian, or, may god have mercy on their souls, both.

if you try to voice your "elitist liberal" views here, you'll be decried very quickly.

not that everyone does this, but i would say the majority of those posting here do. which is why i rarely say anything. but you're awesome and totally right. and i'm allowed to have an opinion about it because i'm american. U! S! A! ... U! S! A!

Posted by: r a e d y at November 15, 2004 09:02 PM

wow. that androgenous blob on the right is amazing.

jabba was a headbanger.

Posted by: SquidOmelet at November 15, 2004 09:28 PM

The bottom pic looks like a band picture from Hall of Douchebags at Rock and Roll Confidential. I mean, the sign isn't there in the band picture, but it looks like someone probably took the picture and made it look like that.

Posted by: Amy 80 at November 15, 2004 09:45 PM

oh dear...i know what's next, goths saying we voted for bush just to make sure we had something to be miserable about.

Posted by: just me at November 15, 2004 09:46 PM

I look on it as a great big bundle of "found art." Quite apart from the message, many of these photos provide a look into a series of fascinating worlds. I'm also intrigued by how many of the participants chose to take the same approach that I imagine they take with their family Christmas cards, i.e., cute pictures of pets and kids with "amusing" captions plus a message of peace. "Happy Holiday Greetings from the Anderson Family! We are so fucking sorry! Our tears are with you!" It's a great slice of Americana.

Posted by: Dr. Frank at November 15, 2004 10:05 PM

I dig the facial hair in the lower photo. Is this the newest band signed to Lookout! Records?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes a posting on craigslist is even better. Check this out:

Anybody notice that these people look....well....ratty?

Posted by: Zaphod at November 15, 2004 11:30 PM

Jillian is my personal favorite. The multi-colored felt tipped pen message was a nice touch, but the bare feet sealed the deal.

Posted by: j francis at November 16, 2004 12:13 AM

Go to gallery 241 and look at the one on the bottom (from China). It looks a bit...scary.

Posted by: Josh Maxwell at November 16, 2004 12:18 AM

Thanks for the pic of the blonde, Frank. I looked at maybe 2 dozen on the web-site (didn't see her) and she's the only one that looks like she's had a bath recently, washed her clothes in the last week or so and has a clue as to what hygiene is and doesn't use heroine. Thanks for showing that all of the apologers are not filthy, Frank.

Posted by: Zaphod at November 16, 2004 12:21 AM

Come to think of it, I want an apology from the French over Chirac, all of the Germans over 70 for Hitler, Americans over 40 for Carter, the Israelis for Sharon and the North Koreans for Kim Jong-Il (not that he was elected, but because they haven't overthrown him). Do you see how ridiculous this can get? These people are making the rest of the county look bad. It's embarrassing.

Posted by: Zaphod at November 16, 2004 12:29 AM

does this "apologer" look like a heroin user to you, zaph?

http://sorryeverybody.com/upload_files/se211.jpg

i didn't think so.

Posted by: r a e d y at November 16, 2004 12:30 AM

oh sigh. you are such a dingbat.

Posted by: r a e d y at November 16, 2004 12:32 AM

dave bug mentioned www.werenotsorry.com

Gallery 415 of sorryeverybody.com illustrates some tension that exists in one household.

Posted by: Josh Maxwell at November 16, 2004 12:38 AM

Something tells me the "rattiness" of these people has less to do with them being Kerry supporters and more to do with them being internet nerds who would know about the site.

Posted by: Swimmy at November 16, 2004 12:42 AM

I'm with Swimmy, I totally agree, being a computer geek myself, I should know.

Posted by: Amy 80 at November 16, 2004 01:38 AM

Hey, I'm a tech-support guy, build my own systems and do web-site design but I don't look like a scrub or a slob. Perhaps that's because I'm an ex-jock or perhaps that's because I don't live in my mom's basement, maybe it's even because I've got a University education and a good job, but it's most likely because my mother raised/reared me correctly and I've never been subjected to having filthy livings conditions and dirty underwear. Being a geek or nerd is not an excuse for being a scrub. I like computers, video games, Star Trek, Star Wars and Middle Earth but I buy my clothes from JC Pennys and Old Navy, not the thrift-store or Hot-Topic, heck even Wal-Mart and K-Mart has nice pants and shirts. I think the Queers wrote about disliking those with poor hygiene in a few of their songs. I agree completely. Cleanliness is next to Godliness and I'd be embarrased to post my picture if I were filthy looking. I'd also be less likely to take somebody or their opinions seriously if they were dirty. They're embarrassing themselves, assuming they have any pride, and the country.

Posted by: Zaphod at November 16, 2004 01:52 AM

well some people would rather shop thrifty than support
the international slave labor of old navy.

but i guess new clothes can be good though.

Posted by: just me at November 16, 2004 02:30 AM

uhhhm yeah. mediocrity rules man.

there are a lot of things i wanna say right now but why bother because it's just a comments section of a blog? and just me pretty much said the biggest part.

no you know what fuck it. i'm sorry these 'ratty' people don't live up to your bizarre expectations of walmartpants and get-over-it-ness. there are more important things to care about than whether someone looks dirty or lives in their mom's basement. sweet god, dude, you really are a dingbat. while humorous in some (okay, many...) aspects, these people don't embarrass me at all. if anyone's elitist here, it's you, sweetheart. and hot damn for you for having a mom who washed/washes your underpants. hot. damn.

Posted by: r a e d y at November 16, 2004 07:19 AM

perhaps one of the more ironic post election internet happenings, to me, are some of the "debates" i've browsed through at the stileproject.com forums.

so many bush supporters on a site with streaming videos of japanese schoolgirls eating their own feces. i dunno, just seems odd to me.

Posted by: NickH at November 16, 2004 07:21 AM

You know, there's an old proverb that applies particularly well in international relations: everybody's friend is everybody's fool. I could give a rat's ass what Canadians think about our elected leaders. Maybe that sounds TOO patriotic, sorry, but asking a Canadian's opinion's on how to run the US is like asking your toddler brother how to put the moves on your prom date.

Posted by: JB at November 16, 2004 12:36 PM

Raedy: the trouble with "elitist liberal" views is the smugness of knowing what's right for the "little people" bereft of any actual wisdom, knowledge or experience. I can imagine how things work in Billy Joe Armstrong's head (to use a famous example): "hmm...I've sold 20 million albums...I'm famous...I have a high IQ; therefore I actually *know* anything about how foreign policy/national security/international relations/whatever work -- or I can just point to some "expert" who happens to confirm my prejudices, that's just as well." It's simply an assumption that by your real or perceived status in some field your political judgements are automatically superior to that of the common folk.

Posted by: JB at November 16, 2004 01:08 PM

It took three pics, but now I get it. And to think, I was going move to Japan, a mystical and enchanted land where they don't let Christian Bullshit run their lives and they love Dragons as much as I do!
The Canadian government did apologize for Brian Adams on several occasions.

Posted by: josh at November 16, 2004 01:09 PM

You'd be surprised at the number of Christians in Japan, Josh. There has been a lot of complaining over there about western culture smothering out their own.

JB, while I can't argue about BJ's having sold xxx millions of albums, I was wondering if you were aware that he dropped out of High-School when he was 15? Could've been out of boredom or it could've been because he knew Sweet Children/Green Day was about to take off, I don't really buy that though because for their first two albums they spent a lot of time opening up for MTX and the Queers.

You're right R a e d y, I've somehow become bitter as of late and not my usual light-hearted self. Perhaps I'll end this post with a joke, for old time's sake:

A middle-aged woman seemed timid as she visited her gynecologist."Come now," coaxed the doctor, "you've been seeing me for years! There's nothing you can't tell me.""This one's kind of strange..." said the woman."Let me be the judge of that," the doctor replied."Well," said the woman, "Yesterday I went to the bathroom in the morning and I heard a plink-plink in the toilet. When I looked down, the water was full of pennies.""Mmmm, I see." said the, doctor.
"That afternoon I went again and there were nickels in the bowl."
"Uh-huh." the doctor said as he got more and more interested in her story.
"That night," she went on, "there were dimes and this morning there were quarters! You've got to tell me what's wrong with me!" she implored. "I'm scared out of my wits!"The gynecologist put a comforting hand on her shoulder. "There is nothing to be frightened about. You're simply going through the change."

Thanks, you've been wonderful...try the veal it's fan-tastic!

Yes, I voted for Bush, and everything that moved with a Republican Label on it. I'm NOT sorry.

Posted by: Prakk at November 16, 2004 11:31 PM

well ya should be.

jb, trust me, as the daughter of a mechanic and a cashier who somehow has found herself in an academic career, i completely understand the problems with liberal elitism. but i'm just as offended if not more so at conservative elitism especially of the evangelical christian sort. but having said that the majority of people i know who are liberal are not so because of their eliteness. i'm not going to go into though because it's not important. you can be liberal and educated and yes even wealthy, white, hetero, and male without being elitist.

also i don't know much about billie joe armstrong but what i do believe he comes from a bluecollar background which does give him experience. i don't really consider him to be elitist but then as i said i don't know too much about him. so i guess i don't really understand that example. but yes i know it's annoying to hear a lot of people thinking that people must have been stupid to vote bush. i don't think that at all. well in some cases i know it to be true.

zaphod....now there's the zaph i love to violently disagree with. that's more like it. offensive in such a charming way. :)

Posted by: r a e d y at November 17, 2004 04:54 AM

JB,
isn't calling blue collar americans "common folk" pretty elitist in itself? you probably use words like thrice and furthermore, too.

I don't know i see nothing bad about the photo site. I think its a good theraputic thing to make feel people feel empowered even though we've been condemned to this bush regime. and if it can share a message over the 'net, why not... that reaches a lot of people.
