Things You Learn Hanging Around in Bars

I once wrote a song whose gimmick was telling time by the number of drinks rather than the number of hours and minutes. I'm not about to write another one, but that particular song did not exhaust all the possible variants.

What I'm getting at is, I just realized that the full version of "Time Has Come Today," when played on the jukebox in the afternoon at a bar in downtown Oakland, lasts around 3/4 of a pint. That's one long ass song. Or a quick ass drinker. Not sure which.

this may be accounting for taste, but for me its an exhaustingly long -time -to -take- a- walk- and -get- a -snack song.

but given your situation,i understand why you didn't.

doctor f. you are a silly willy. i find your blog to be wildly amusing. anyway, now 2 questions. i only hope to have one of them answered as i do realize that you are a man of multiple endeavors.

1. did you ever get around to listening to my silly anitas anger cd that i gave you last year sometime? i believe it was at your show in OKC, or maybe it was slims when i got to meet your darling Bella. one of your old bass players gave me a 12 page dissertation/critiquing over the cd. i would be happy just knowing whether or not you gave it a listen or not. knowing if you liked it or not would just be an unexpected bonus.

2. call me crazy, but for some reason this green day cover art for a single seems kind of reminiscent of something mtx may produce. maybe i'm crazy. perhaps i'm not. view it here: greenday. net/wake1.jpg

heros are supposed to answer. so are normal guys and friendly musicians. you are all 3. however, introverted novelists pounding out classics in seclusion rarely do. are you that yet? if not, answer before you are.

I like the Angry Samoans version. At 2:07, you better drink fast.

Which Bar?

Dear Mr. Answer Man:

I know how tall Mt. Everest is in feet, but how tall is it in inches?

I don't know, Frank. I think the drink measurement idea could work if done properly. Seeing how I'm a lightweight though I'm going with "Quick Ass Drinker" as I have to nurse anything I buy in a bar.

hmmm... I thought that the american idiot cover (paper cutout looking thing) was a little reminiscent of "...and the women who love them" as well.

I can easily drain a pint before The Ramones finish Time Has Come Today. I imagine The Chambers Brothers' version with the long cowbell break (Time....time....time...time...) would be good for at least two beers and a shot.

And speak to me not of Green Day and their awful eyeliner. What a bunch of too-cool-for-the-room douchebags.
