The reason why is kind of a long story, but we need to find hi res images of the Revenge is Sweet and So Are You album cover and the goofy promo photo from that era:
No one seems to have saved any of this stuff, which is quite understandable really.
I'm posting this on the outside chance that someone reading might (a) have a copy of that promo photo stashed away; (b) might have access to a good scanner; and (c) might be willing to scan and send the file to me in the next few days. The same goes for the album/CD cover, though I would guess there'd be more (a)s for that one. We need the both fast, I'm afraid. Email me if you can help.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: thanks to everyone who sent scans of the album art. Much appreciated. We should be okay in that department. No one seems to have the photo, which is no big suprise. But anyone who finds one, let me know. Please and thank you.
Posted by Dr. Frank at June 7, 2007 06:03 PM | TrackBackI'm interested in the long story of why you need it. I don't have any way to help you, but I am interested in this long story. Are we about to get hit with a boxed set or something?
You are right about looking goofy in the picture. I tell you, I was disgusted with the "look" you guys had during the Revenge Is Sweet era. I remember the girl I was living with in Boston bringing home an advance copy of the album and giving it to me for free and being like "isn't this that band you're always talking about?" and being a bit ashamed by the way the cover looked.
I sheepishly said "yeah" and then showed her the cover of MAKING THINGS WITH LIGHT and said "this is more my style though..."
Posted by: chris riordan at June 7, 2007 09:54 PMYeah, the hair style and the hand thing makes you look like Rowan Atkinson of Mr. Bean fame.
Posted by: David at June 7, 2007 10:44 PMsorry cant help you there...i smell a greatest hits cd
Posted by: Mike at June 8, 2007 12:54 AMI don't think it's a bad look.
Posted by: Erika at June 8, 2007 01:21 AMHey that's golden era MTX for me. I don't think it's a bad look.
Posted by: Richard at June 8, 2007 03:25 AMMy first and favorite album!
I do have a copy of BAM magazine with you guys on the cover, which I know had some of those photos in it, but I don't know the exact location because it's in storage. I'll forage though, and I'll scan the photos if I can find them.
Posted by: Megan at June 8, 2007 04:32 AMThat's from the days of Joel's Tiger Beat aspirations.
Posted by: Mike at June 8, 2007 04:51 AMhmmm... you're hot. no, you're hot. no, you are. either way, i'm okay with it. seriously.
Posted by: kaos at June 8, 2007 05:44 AMListen kids, I was into MTX back when they were called "The Bent Nails", in fact - I was the midwife at Frank's birth and remember saying "he's got ten fingers, he'll make a good guitarist!"
I am not objecting to the music on Revenge Is Sweet, not by a longshot. In fact, that album also spawned the best 45 B-side in MTX history, the cover of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" with that girl from the Muffs.
However, on the cover he is quite effete in a sherbet orange caridgan and history teacher haircut. Slyly-lethargicly leaning against a large, white, plaster hand he seems to be saying to the subject of his songs, "Go ahead. Mistreat me. I'll write an album about it."
Actually, "Revenge Is Sweet..." has a fair share of "so happy we're together" material on there.
Usually MTX is at it's best when playing anthemic complaints and melodical melodramatic ruminations on failed romance. However, songs like "...And I will be with you" do well in displaying Dr. Frank's seldom seen happy and content side.
But of course, none of this changes the fact that Frank looked like a weenie on that album cover and his buddies in the band were even more shameful! You're rockstars for godsake, look the part!
Posted by: chris riordan at June 8, 2007 03:05 PMI bought mine from iTunes, so no cover, but to actually be of some help, I think you can get a jpg of the cover off of iTunes or if you googled the album through the images section, I know there are Gifs and Jpegs galore. I hope that'll do, unless you're wanting somehting hi-res.
Posted by: Zaphod at June 8, 2007 07:19 PMI too have a soft spot for that time in MTX's career. Speaking of "that time," did you hear that the Groovie Ghoulies officially broke up some weeks ago?...Amazing how few pop punk bands from that decade are still around. In addition to the Ghoulies; Screeching Weasel, the Hive Fives, Nobodys, Squirtgun, and countless others have called it quits. Makes this guy feel REALLY ancient.
Posted by: David at June 8, 2007 11:52 PMBy the way, I think I have packed somewhere in storage a couple of b and w pictures that Lookout sent me as a free gift (I ordered a bunch of stuff from them back in the day) circa 1998 with MTX on it. In one of them, I remember, Frank, you are wearing a vintage button up (and buttons across, I think...it made like a cross design) shirt and Frank you are in the middle, and Jym is up close to the camera as was Joel Reeder I think if I remember. I'll see if I can find it quickly. But I imagine it might be gone.
Posted by: David at June 9, 2007 12:00 AMI am currently making a hypothetical promo shot for the "Sex Offender" single. Thank you, photoshop.
Posted by: chris riordan at June 9, 2007 02:42 AMHow old was Joel there, 11? I remember seeing you guys at the cactus club (and probably the edge) in support of this one when I was in HS. I waltzed up to the merch table and asked you if you liked elvis costello, then got embarrassed and ran off.
Posted by: Katie Garcia at June 9, 2007 07:17 AMI could get you the cover easy if you still need it (high quality scanner here!), but sadly I don't have the picture. I do have that BAM magazine with your cover article and such and it's from the same era, but not the same picture...
Posted by: Sasha at June 9, 2007 06:30 PMI think I actually do have that photo from some press kit thing that I bought off of ebay a few years ago. No promises but I can look when I get home from work tonight.
Posted by: JodyAnthony at June 11, 2007 02:07 PMIs MTX jumping ship to Asian Man? I haven't really kept up with what's going on with Lookout lately, if anything. I am really looking forward to Insubordination Fest though!
Revenge is Sweet is one of two MTX album covers I don't absolutely adore (Everyone's Entitled comes in close 2nd, but the colored pencil (or crayon?) shading technique has a dash of it's own charm too). If you have a problem with the Revenge cover, you can simply fold over the booklet cover to the inside flap that just reads the album title and then "by The Mr. T Experience," which for me has always been a far more suitable cover for an already great album.

i think its 200dpi, I didn't change the scanner settings and thats the most recent dpi I remember using.
I can scan it to whatever size/format you need though
Posted by: JodyAnthony at June 12, 2007 12:07 PMListen to "My Looks And Your Brains" while looking at this album cover. Now, pick yourself up off the floor and tell me you don't think that album art is comic genius. I love it.

Posted by: Mike NYC at June 12, 2007 07:28 PMChrist, I have one of those promo headshots, but it's back at my parent's house in storage somewhere. Dammit. They sent one once when I ordered some CDs from Lookout.
Posted by: Nick at June 12, 2007 08:52 PMSorry, I can't help. But I was wondering when Steve Buscemi joined the band.
Posted by: nancy at June 13, 2007 06:10 PM aha, that must have been why i liked Jym so much.
i adore Steve Buschemi.
Sadly it will never happen if it could, old Steve's like 50 and married with kids.
Cest la vie.
Posted by: just me at June 13, 2007 07:19 PMSorry, no art or anything. How about a good ol' Skatin' Cows t-shirt? Cow? Skateboard? Classic...!
