Yay Oakland

ba_oakland_0101.jpg

This was the scene earlier today outside Cybelle's Pizza on Piedmont Avenue, just down the street from Cato's Ale House where I spent today writing. The cops had closed off the street and brought in a SWAT team and ordered everyone on the street to go inside this or that business to wait out the "hostage situation." Some of the people who came into Cato's said the "word on the street" was that there was a gunman holding ten hostages at the pizza place. Here's how the Chroncle report came out, a couple of hours later. It's a funny old world. Posted by Dr. Frank at March 11, 2007 02:35 AM | TrackBack

Cybelle’s makes a tasty pizza AND they deliver. I suppose this latest development is a good argument for passing on the dine in experience.

In other neighborhoodlum news, Berkeley PD (with some help from Albany and Emeryville PD – and the Berkeley FD) apprehended the guys who robbed Noah’s Bagels this morning. Oakland PD and Berkeley PD will be high-fiving for a few weeks. And we’ll be able to walk the streets knowing there are four less bad guys on the loose.

So I was in the bar of a local Mexican restaurant waiting for my to-go order last night, and these people are talking about the SWAT team outside (a block away). Then today I read about the meth involvement and saw the picture of this hideous dude... and I thought of you!

Both stuck in a bar with a SWAT team and meth-heads outside... ahhh... what silly, silly world we live in!
