Boycott Gay Jews?

I disapproved of the AUT boycott of Israel for all the customary reasons, as might have been predicted, even though I willingly concede that there were well-intentioned ingenues amongst those who disagreed.

However, this proposed boycott of an Israeli gay pride event seems to stretch absurdity even further than even I can entertain for the sake of argument or the benefit of the doubt. The interior monologue where I try to describe why has just turned my mind into a pretzel, but Norm and Engage take a shot. Appalling and confusing.

why did you do that ?

I boycotted transexual Nazi eskimos well over a decade ago. I see this as a new trend.

I think the term "boycott" is inherently sexist.

If you think boycotting the Israeli government is morally wrong, you're entitled to your views, however misguided that they may be.

However, you should refrain from accusing those who disagree with you of being racist homophobes.

You are deliberately misrepresenting the views of those with whom you disagree on this issue in order to imply a kind of moral equivalency between boycotting economic and political activities which benefit the Israeli government (legitimate and reasonable) and intolerance for homosexuals or people who happen to be Jewish (illegitimate and unreasonable).

You title your post "Boycott Gay Jews?" yet, as you know, nothing in this group's statements advocates a boycott of gays, Jews, or even "gay Jews."

Their statement, as you know, says this: "We support the rights of all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and other queer-identified (LGBTIQ) people to love and live in freedom, and to demonstrate publicly to demand their/our rights."

Which, to any objective and fair person who can comprehend English, doesn't advocate boycotting gays or Jews. to the contrary, they seem to support gays and don't say a single word about Jews.

I think I'll just boycott the font type used on the web page linked in the post, instead.

Mr. University, do you get paid to post this stuff?

It's an honest question.

Posted by: Wes at July 5, 2005 12:33 AM

That is not an honest question.

Posted by: Aryamehr University at July 5, 2005 01:20 AM

I thought it was quite straightforward.

I'm just trying to understand what motivated you to post such an ad hominem response. True, there was a conflation of Israeli government and Jew in the headline (which I took as hyperbole for comic effect). I just don't think it warrants your assertion that anyone is being labelled a racist homophobe.

okay listen, lets play nice. this is how i see it.
i don't always agree with Dr. Frank on these things, but my generally view of his motives are
overally positive. things are said for the sake of humour or pondering their own strangeness.

and personally i won't touch this subject with a ten foot pole for either reason.
